FAQs

I am a beginner and would like to learn an instrument. Should I sign up for a private class or group class?

Students who excel having the direct attention of a teacher should sign up for a private class. Since you will be the only student, the learning pace is personalized to you. Classes will be intense, maximizing individual progress.

On the other hand, some students prefer to learn in a group class. This is a great way for friends and siblings to take an instrument together. If you are motivated by your peers, this is the class for you. There will be opportunities for both student collaboration and independent practice. Classes will be conducted at a comfortable pace for each student, no matter what level he may be.

I am an adult beginner. Is it too late for me to start classes?

No. Everyone can learn to play music at any age, so get started today.

What days can I schedule my class?

Classes are scheduled Monday through Saturday.

How often do I need to take a class?

You will be scheduled to meet for a class once per week. Additional classes can be arranged upon request.

Do I need to have my own instrument?

Yes. You will need to practice daily at home.

How much time will I have to spend practicing my instrument?

Practicing is necessary to learn an instrument. Generally speaking, the more time you spend with your instrument, the more progress you will make. To start, beginners will practice 15-20 minutes per day, while intermediate students will practice 25-40 minutes per day, and advanced students will practice 45-60 minutes per day.

Will I be able to choose the music I want to play?

Yes. It is important for students to be involved in selecting songs. This helps to keep you interested in the music you are learning to play.

What if I need to reschedule my class?

Your weekly class time is reserved for you. It is understandable that you will not be able to attend a scheduled class from time to time. The Attendance Policy states that any requests for rescheduling a class must be made 48 hours in advance of the original scheduled class, or it will be forfeited. Make up classes must be scheduled in the same calendar month as the original class and cannot be carried over into the next month. There are no exceptions.

Will I have an opportunity to perform my music?

Yes. A performance gives you the chance to share your music with an audience. Preparation for the performance improves your skills, while participation in the performance helps to boost your confidence.

We hold at least one concert per year, and have several Peer Performance Group classes throughout the year.

I have more than one household family member who would like to take a music class. Do you offer family discounts?
