All About Section Parties
Being part of a band means you’re practically forced to become close with your section. After all, you’re spending so much time next to each other during practice, constantly pushing each other to become better together. And after all that hard work, it culminates in big performances and a huge sense of accomplishment. But there’s more to the experience than just playing music. That’s what a section party is all about!
What is a Section Party?
A section party is a fun time to hang out and bond with your group in a way that has nothing to do with rehearsing or performing. It’s purely about enjoying each other’s company and making memories outside of the usual practice space. One of my favorite high school memories was attending a winter break section party. We had a secret santa gift exchange, and we did a ton of other activities such as cup pong and karaoke. Everyone brought some food to the section party, so we enjoyed a feast of diverse dishes and snacks.

I think it is very important to build strong relationships with your section. Music isn’t just about playing the right notes or hitting the right rhythms — it’s about connecting with the people around you and creating lasting moments. Speaking from experience, the bonds you form with your section make every practice and performance more meaningful.
Organizing Your Own Section Party
It’s pretty simple to organize your own section party. First, you will need to pick a date and time that works for as many people as possible. Keep transportation in mind, so everyone can easily get there and back. Next, you will need a location. Someone’s house, a park, or a place to eat are common spots where everyone can hang out comfortably. Once you have chosen the location, make sure you can fill the time with fun activities. Whether it’s games, music, or food, think about what makes it a memorable moment.
